In the week of the 3rd February, we celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week by Place2Be at Cringleford Prep. The theme this year was ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself”, encouraging self-discovery and growth. We encouraged everyone to embrace self-awareness and explore what that meant to them, supporting the growth and development of resilience. Thank you to Mrs Holmes who was instrumental in all that we achieved throughout the week.

At the start of the week, we shared parts of “The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse” by Charlie Macksey in assembly. Then throughout the week, we had daily circle times to share how we were feeling, our pupils were really engaged and forthcoming with their feelings. It was fantastic to see them grow and develop over the week, sharing with others and spending time thinking about what makes every one of us special. It was heart warming to see children sharing what they think makes their friends special too!

Carmel Greene, Principal said:

“Children’s Mental Health Week gave us the perfect opportunity to explore our values further with a particular lens on wellbeing. Some of the themes that came out of the week included: knowing ourselves and our bodies, showing kindness towards ourselves, asking questions to understand ourselves better and not being afraid of big feelings.

Our children regularly engage in mindfulness activities and yoga as part of our day-to-day offer, but being lucky enough to have additional pastoral support for our children in the form of Mrs Holmes is truly invaluable.”

Over the week we also looked at the importance of finding activities that help our minds and our bodies stay healthy. In our PE lesson for that week, we discovered the impact exercise has both on our physical health and our mental health. Supporting the growth of our body and our mind.

At the end of the week, we had a visit to the library on Friday where we spent time thinking about how reading and listening to stories makes us feel, how we engage with the characters and can identify with the traits we share. In Art we made some Glitter Calm Jars and thought about how we can use mindfulness to support our wellbeing, taking a moment and being thankful.
